Luxury Branding & Website Design for Wessex Flower Co
COMPLETE BRAND AND WEBSITE DESIGN PROJECT
Alicia, head florist and owner of Wessex Flower Co., was struggling to position herself in the competitive luxury wedding market. Despite creating stunning whimsical bouquets and showstopper floral arrangements, her existing brand wasn't attracting the high-end clients she wanted to serve. She was competing against numerous local florists who all followed the same visual formula – predominantly green websites that looked generic and failed to capture the sophistication of luxury floral design.
-
My approach began with understanding what made Alicia's work distinctive. Through observation of her creative process, I discovered that her signature style centred around incorporating foraged hedgerow stems into every arrangement – a unique touch that added natural, organic beauty and set her work apart from conventional florists.
The strategy was to create a brand that felt as sophisticated as high-end wedding stationery, establishing immediate visual credibility with luxury-minded couples and justifying premium pricing.
-
To make the brand deeply personal to Alicia's business, I drew direct inspiration from those signature foraged hedgerow stems. These elements were carefully hand-drawn and stylised, becoming the foundation of the visual identity. The organic, delicate nature of these illustrations immediately communicated the artisanal quality and natural beauty of her work.
A small beetle became a charming recurring motif throughout the design system, adding whimsy that reflected Alicia's personality while maintaining overall elegance. This unexpected detail creates memorable moments for users and reinforces the natural, foraged aesthetic.
The typography strategy involved customising fonts to add distinctive elegance to the brand logos, ensuring they felt bespoke and premium rather than generic. This attention to detail reinforced the luxury positioning and demonstrated the same level of craftsmanship clients could expect from her floral work.
-
One of the most strategic decisions was deliberately moving away from the green-heavy colour palettes that dominated her competitors' branding. Instead, I developed a sophisticated palette centred around navy and light blue as primary colours, with a carefully selected mid-tone green for accent use. This unexpected colour combination immediately differentiated Wessex Flower Co. from the sea of green florist websites while maintaining a natural, organic feel.
The colour strategy extended beyond the website with a vibrant extended palette designed for social media and marketing materials. This dual approach allows Alicia's beautiful floral photography to shine on the website without competing colours, while giving her flexibility to express her creative personality across social platforms.
-
The complete brand system was implemented across a new website designed to echo the sophistication of high-end wedding stationery, with hand-drawn elements and strategic colour use creating a cohesive premium experience.
The rebrand has successfully positioned Wessex Flower Co. as a luxury specialist in the wedding floristry market. Alicia has attracted the high-budget clients she was targeting, with couples who specifically seek out her expertise for statement floral designs. The distinctive branding has helped her stand out in a crowded market, supporting her premium pricing strategy and allowing her to focus on larger, more creative projects.
